The first 90 days after 50: where to start
Most restarts don't fail on willpower. They fail because too much changes at once.

If you've spent years at a desk, work long days and just decided to change something, the first few weeks are the riskiest. Not because starting is hard, but because enthusiasm opens too many fronts at once.
Why most restarts collapse in week three
A new way of eating, a new training plan, an earlier bedtime and less alcohol add up to more decisions than a busy week can carry. When a hard stretch arrives, it isn't one habit that goes – it's the whole system.
- Too many changes started together.
- Weekly targets set too high.
- No plan decided in advance for what happens after a missed day.
- Success measured as perfection rather than continuation.
A more realistic 90-day split
- Days 1–30: sleep rhythm and a daily walk. Nothing else.
- Days 31–60: two simple strength sessions a week, and protein at main meals.
- Days 61–90: rehearse the hard situations – travel, family meals, coming back after illness.
